NEW IN BIBLIOTHECA UNIVERSALIS: RICHARD LIVERMORE (UNITED KINGDOM)

Hamlet in the Dock

He had always believed
that the moon was his friend
until it shone on his crime
and exposed him. His crime
was wanting to be
in the first place
and occupy space – which
had always belonged
to the stars – in the second.

That he was therefore
another subversive
wouldn’t be hard
for the planets to prove
to a jury of stars.
So he would just have to
pretend he was mad
and a plea of insane
would maybe absolve him.

Hamlet în boxa acuzaţilor

Crezuse mereu
că luna i-ar fi prieten
până ce și-a trimis razele
să-i descopere crima. Crimă
era că a vrut să fie
în primul rând
și să existe în spațiu – care
dintotdeauna fusese
al stelelor – mai apoi.

Că prin urmare era
un alt anarhist
nu le-ar fi greu
planetelor să dovedească
unui juriu de stele.
Așa că va trebui doar
să se prefacă nebun
și pledând nebun
va fi poate achitat.
